The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab is a versatile full-size pickup truck that rivals the likes of the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500. It’s available in a wide array of configurations for a large variety of buyers. If you can’t find the perfect truck from within this lineup, you just aren’t trying hard enough.
There will be a refreshed 2022 Silverado available next spring with a new range-topping ZR2 set to take on the Ford Raptor and Ram TRX off-road models. In the meantime, Chevrolet’s top Silverado remains the High Country model.
With seating for up to six passengers, the Silverado offers space, power, and generous cargo hauling and towing capabilities for a wide range of buyers. Engine choices include an eager 2.7-liter turbocharged inline-4 up to a 6.2-liter V8. These engines power either the rear- (RWD) or 4-wheel drive (4WD) systems with a towing capability of 9,600 to 13,300 pounds.
The interior of the Silverado spans from utilitarian all the way to elegant, depending on how you outfit it. The base rear-drive 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab Work Truck with Short Box starts at $36,910. It’s a well-equipped, anything-but-luxurious truck. It includes seating for six, a 2.7-liter turbo inline-4 engine, 8-speed automatic transmission, along with 12-volt front and rear auxiliary power outlets. Also included are Bluetooth, a 6-speaker audio system, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot-spot (via subscription). If luxury is what you seek, read on.

Here’s a look at some of that extra content:
6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine
Not many other vehicles can say they share the same basic engine with the new Corvette Stingray C8. But the Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cab can. Unlike the Corvette with Active Fuel Management that shuts down specific cylinders, the Silverado uses Dynamic Fuel Management to shut down any cylinder when it is not needed. When properly equipped with the 6.2-liter V8, the Silverado High Country can tow up to 9,200 pounds.
High Country Deluxe Package
This package includes a forward collision alert, lane-keep assist with lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, adaptive cruise control, Safety Alert Seat, power sunroof, 22-inch all-season tires, and all-weather floor liners.
Technology and Driver Alert II packages
The Technology Package includes a load of electronics designed to make an owner’s life easier. They include the HD Surround Vision system with a Rearview Camera Mirror. A multi-color 15-inch head-up display (HUD) keeps the driver’s attention forward, while a bed view camera shows no surprises in the box. The Safety Package II brings forward collision alert, lane-keep assist with lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, following distance indicator, adaptive cruise control, safety alert seat, and Intellibeam automatic headlights.
Tow and cargo capability
Taking advantage of the Silverado’s towing capabilities will require the available Chevrolet Max Trailering Package. It offers up the Advanced Trailering Package, automatic locking rear differential, handling/trailering suspension package, trailer brake controller, and more.
Multi-Flex Tailgate
The Multi-Flex Tailgate is a General Motors innovation offering 6-way versatility with steps, bed extensions, cargo steps, and more. The primary tailgate gently lowers from a button in the cab or on the key fob. This primary tailgate includes a load stop preventing cargo from sliding out. The easy access function allows you to get closer to reach farther in the bed. A full-width step can be opened, as can an inner gate load stop. Finally, there’s also an inner gate with a standing-height work surface.
