VW Recalls Golf GTI for Backup Camera Problem

The 2024 Volkswagen Golf GTI seen in profile

Volkswagen has recalled 8,237 Golf GTI hatchbacks from model years 2022 through 2024 because their rearview cameras may not display an image.

The company tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that software issues can cause the rearview camera image to “be delayed or deactivated after shifting into reverse.”

Dealers can fix the problem with a simple software update. However, these vehicles do not receive updates over the air, so owners must bring them into the dealership to have the update installed. Software updates are often quick service appointments.

By law, dealers don’t charge for recall repairs.

Automakers recall many cars to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. While automakers try to reach every owner to ask them to bring the vehicle in for repair, they rarely reach them all. Millions of vehicles on American roads need free recall repairs. Check the easy VIN tool at our recall center to find out if your car is one of them.
