Unable to resist going the extra executive-focused mile, Volvo cranked up the appeal of its ultra-spec XC90 Excellence model with an even more indulgent one-off version, the Lounge Console Concept. In presenting this ultra-spec SUV at the Shanghai show, Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President Design at Volvo Car Group, said its design resulted from an analysis of the needs and perspectives of chauffeur-driven executives. Retaining the Excellence’s ultra-plush rear seats but replacing the front passenger perch with flexible free space that can be configured in a variety of ways, the Lounge Console permits harried business types to work or relax in ultimate comfort while on the go.

Key Lounge Console features include a large work table that can be rotated 90 degrees and powered forward to reveal a 17-inch media screen. The table also incorporates an illuminated vanity mirror and storage tray while the cushioned leg rest conceals space for shoes. There’s even a lockable storage box to hold valuables. According to Ingenlath, the purpose of the Lounge Console Concept was to raise awareness among potential executive customers that Volvo is well aware of their unmet needs and in a position "to create a passenger experience that is unique in the premium car segment."
