An open-air version of the striking Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Coupe revealed last year at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance debuted at this year’s event. The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet shares many design cues as well as electric powertrain with its hardtop concept counterpart, but here, the seat count is two not four.

Stunning style
Like the Coupe, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet serves up its grandeur on a grand scale. Nearly 19 feet long and over 6.5-feet wide, the car’s sweeping lines and elegant art deco influence impart a presence that few other vehicles can even dream of matching. The nautical blue metallic body and white fabric top on this exercise are complemented by slim lighting elements and a selection of delicate chrome accents that run from its distinctive Mercedes-Maybach grille treatment to the boat-tail rear deck. Rounding out the look is a set of custom 24-inch center-lock alloy wheels.
Inside, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet reprises many of the basic themes introduced in the Coupe to create what Mercedes describes as a “360-degree luxury lounge.” These high-tech touches include flowing seating surfaces covered in quilted white Nappa leather and fitted with biometric sensing devices, flooring that has open-pore wood inlaid with aluminum, a dual-screen head-up display, “hyper-analogue” instruments that combine electronic background fields with conventional indicator needles and the captivating transparent center tunnel that uses illuminated fiber optic threads to graphically depict the flow of energy.
Electric exhilaration
Like the Coupe, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is designed as an electric vehicle. Its sophisticated AWD system features a permanent magnet synchronous motor in each wheel, with a collective output of 738 horsepower. Energized by a flat underfloor battery pack that holds over 200 miles of per-charge range, this 4 x 185-horse motor array reportedly can send the Cabriolet from 0-60 mph in less than 4.0 seconds and carry it to an electronically-limited 155- mph top speed. This Mercedes-Maybach dream machine also is capable of using a 350 kW DC fast-charging system that can pump 60 miles of range into the battery pack in just 5 minutes.
