You can finally buy a Jeep Wrangler with V8 power. But it’ll cost you as much as two Wranglers.
“Jeep enthusiasts asked us for a Wrangler powered by a V8 engine, and we listened,” Jeep North America Vice President Jim Morrison says. He adds it’s “the quickest and most powerful Jeep Wrangler yet, loaded with standard off-road performance features that make this Jeep Wrangler incredibly capable of covering the most rugged terrain. This new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 broadens the meaning of Jeep Wrangler 4×4 capability and gives off-road enthusiasts something they can’t get anywhere else backed by the factory: V8 performance and a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds.”
That 470-horsepower performance comes at a base price of $73,500, not including the $1,495 destination fee.
In addition to the big engine, the Rubicon 392 comes with a functional hood scoop. A tri-level air intake system feeds the engine and separates water – up to 15 gallons per minute. This enables the Rubicon 392 to traverse water up to 32.5 inches deep. It also features a dual-mode exhaust that opens butterfly valves to reduce backpressure under heavy loads raising the exhaust note.
The Rubicon 392 sits 2 inches higher than other Wranglers, on FOX high-performance shocks. It also features heavy-duty brakes and a hill descent mode that uses engine braking to control speed downhill and save the brake pads from wear.
Inside, you’ll find well-bolstered leather seats, a leather-wrapped wheel, and paddle shifters. Yes, we said paddle shifters. Jeep really cribbed a few ideas beyond the V8 from its sportier Dodge siblings.
The 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon reaches dealerships this quarter.
