Toyota Yaris Recalled Over Fuel Pump

Toyota is recalling about 31,000 Yaris subcompact cars due to possibly defective low-pressure fuel pumps. If the pump should fail, the engine could stall or fail to start. The recall applies to 2019-2020 Yarises built on certain dates.

Owners might notice a rough idle, hesitation to start, or an illuminated check engine light as the problem develops.

Toyota reports that a small number of the cars being recalled may have the defect, but it has no way of identifying them. So it plans to replace the pumps in all of them.

Dealers will replace the fuel pumps with an improved design. The company believes that a small number of owners may have already paid to have their fuel pumps replaced. Dealers should walk those owners through the process of obtaining reimbursement for the work already performed.

Recall repairs are always free. Many cars are recalled, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all. Find out whether your car has any outstanding recalls with the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
