Weight capacity labels tell owners how much weight a vehicle can carry. Miscalculated labels could cause owners to overload their vehicles. An overloaded vehicle, in a best-case scenario, won’t accelerate or stop predictably. In a worst-case scenario, overloading a vehicle can damage the suspension, steering, or frame.
The labels are inaccurate, Toyota says, because the system that prints them accounted incorrectly for the weight of certain accessories.
With most recalls, owners bring their cars to the dealership for repair. In this case, Toyota says it will send owners the correct label along with “detailed replacement instructions.” Owners can also bring their cars to a dealership, where technicians will print a new label and replace the incorrect one.
