Toyota, Lexus Recall 1 Million Vehicles Over Airbag Issue

Toyota and its Lexus luxury marque say they are recalling “approximately 1 million vehicles” to correct a problem that could keep airbags from deploying to protect the front passenger.

The recall affects the following:

Like most modern cars, these vehicles all use a weight sensor in the front passenger’s seat to determine whether that seat is occupied. It turns on airbags when it detects a passenger. But, in a press release, Toyota says that sensor “could have been improperly manufactured, causing a short circuit.”

That could lead to inoperative airbags.

Dealers will inspect the sensors and replace them if needed. Recall repairs are always free.
