Toyota’s first electric vehicle (EV) on the U.S. market is getting a lot cheaper for 2025.
Toyota plans to eventually launch a full lineup of EVs but has been slower to enter the electric car market than many competitors. That has proven prescient, as the company’s mostly hybrid lineup has sold well in 2024.
But the company does have a single all-electric car on dealer lots today. The bZ4X compact SUV has had a rocky introduction. Our test drivers praise its build quality and long list of standard features. But slow charging times and a maximum range of just 252 miles — only 222 in all-wheel drive (AWD) versions — limit its appeal.
That has left dealers struggling to sell them. Toyota has offered shocking lease deals and, in the New York City area, three years of free charging to sweeten the pot.
Now, they’re taking a more straightforward approach — slashing the price.
The 2025 bZ4X will start at just $38,465, a $6,000 markdown. The prices of more upscale Limited models will be cut by $5,380.
Other changes for 2025 include standard lane-keeping assist, Front Cross-Traffic Alert, and Traffic Jam Assist on Limited models.
Toyota has also added a Nightshade Edition for 2025. That’s Toyota’s term for a popular blackout package many automakers now offer, with blackened wheels, trim, and black upholstery with red contrast-color stitching.
