  • New LE entry level trim added
  • All models get Apple CarPlay
  • Additional assists added to higher trims
  • Pricing now starts at $20,995 plus $1,095 delivery

Looking to expand the appeal of its subcompact crossover SUV, Toyota has added a new entry level trim to the 2019 Toyota CH-R. The new model joins the XLE and Limited versions, which also benefit from some feature upgrades. The new lower-priced CH-R LE mode is positioned better compete with the 2019 Nissan Kicks, Hyundai Kona and redesigned 2020 Kia Soul, all of which have models with MSRPs starting around $20,000.

The new lineup also reflects a change in dropping the XLE Premium grade, which was between the XLE and Limited models. The LE comes with a long list of standard equipment including 17-inch steel wheels, LED daytime running lights, remote keyless entry, tilt/telescoping steering column, Bluetooth connectivity, voice recognition and 6-way adjustable front seats. The $20,995 base price also includes such safety features as full-speed range radar cruise control, lane departure alert, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection and automatic high beams. All trim levels benefit from Apple CarPlay compatibility.

XLE and Limited changes

For 2019, the Toyota CH-R XLE trim now includes blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert, power folding side mirrors, smart key with push button start, puddle lamps and piano black accents on the upper console. Pricing on the XLE starts at $23,030 plus destination.

Limited models gain fog lamps, piano black C-pillar treatments, rain-sensing wipers, Entune 3.0 Audio Plus, heated front seats, power lumbar support for the driver, chrome window accents, leather-trimmed or leather-trimmed with fabric insert seats. The 2019 Toyota CH-R Limited model carries a base MSRP of $26,050 plus destination.

Paint options

In addition to offering five standard colors (a Blue Flame shade replaces Radiant Green Mica for 2019), the CH-R has two extra cost colors, Ruby Flare Pearl and Blizzard Pearl. Buyers can also opt for a R-Code paint scheme which comes with either a black or white roof, side mirrors and A-pillar.
