If you’re considering buying a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y anytime soon, you may want to pull the trigger before the end of the year. A new, unadvertised incentive from Tesla temporarily extends a year of free supercharging at its nationwide network of supercharger stations.
The tip comes courtesy of Electrek, which got a hold of an email sent to sales personnel authorizing them to offer the deal on cars delivered by December 31.
Tesla is subject to different sales pressures than any other automaker because it owns its own dealerships. That means the usual end-of-month incentives automakers tend to offer their dealership partners aren’t relevant. What is relevant to Telsa, though, is the end of a quarter.
The company can’t book revenue on a vehicle until customer delivery. It wants to show growth each quarter for the sake of investors. So, this often results in a sales push as the quarter is ending.
This time, it affects the Model 3 and Y, because, as we’ve previously reported, sales on the Model S and Model X are slow enough that the company has temporarily stopped production of those cars. But the 3 and Y remain in high enough demand to justify a rare incentive.
