Tesla Raises Model S Prices

2022 Tesla Model S Plaid Driving Profile

Tesla increased prices on both trim levels of its top-of-the-line Model S sedan by $5,000 late on Friday.

Tesla is known for frequent price changes – a practice traditionally rare in the automotive industry. That often means sudden price cuts to help the brand reach sales targets. It occasionally means unexplained price increases, too.

Tesla doesn’t operate a public relations department or answer reporters’ questions, so we don’t know what prompted the move.

The Model S is Tesla’s oldest model and has been its slowest-selling car for most of 2024. Our reviewers like its blistering speed and range of up to 405 miles between charges (range changes with each trim level).

However, it has grown dated as newer competitors like the Porsche Taycan and Lucid Air have reached the market.
