Team Hot Wheels duo set Guinness record for vertical loop stunt

Putting a 360-degree super-sized twist on a classic bit of its own toy-time history, a pair of performance-prepped Team Hot Wheels racers successfully completed the Double Loop Dare challenge at last weekend’s X Games in Los Angeles. The Green Team entry driven by ace stuntman Greg Tracy and the Yellow Team car piloted by three-time X Games RallyCross gold medalist Tanner Foust blasted through a full-size recreation of Mattel’s original 1:64-scale Hot Wheels Double Dare Snare Track. To accommodate real cars, this electric orange venue had its run-up and close-out segments connected by a 66-foot high loop element that required both drivers to begin their attack it at 52 mph and endure a 7g max loading force before exiting onto a final jump to the finish. The prize for their efforts was a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Tracy edged out Foust to claim victory at the end of the Double Loop Dare run and later, Tanner came back to grab fourth place in the 10-car X Games RallyCross finale behind the wheel of his AWD rally-spec Ford Fiesta.
