Researchers at J.D. Power tell us that automakers are getting worse at most of the most important things they do. But they are getting better at designing websites.
Recent surveys from the survey giant have shown that Americans find more problems than ever in the new cars they buy. They’re dissatisfied with everything from complicated interior technologies to exterior design. New car buyers are even less satisfied with their sales experience when shopping.
But some automakers can still build an appealing — website.
“Website satisfaction can be volatile and automotive websites are not immune to changing preferences,” said Jon Sundberg, director of digital solutions at J.D. Power. “However, manufacturers have shown to be very agile when it comes to website design and ensuring their sites meet modern standards, more so than many other industries, as exemplified through the study data.”
The J.D. Power U.S. Manufacturer Website Evaluation Study, conducted twice a year, surveys more than 10,000 new-car shoppers on the information/content, visual appeal, ease of navigation, and loading speed of manufacturer (not dealer) websites.
Shoppers praised Alfa Romeo’s website more than any other luxury automaker’s, and Ram’s more than any other mainstream automaker’s.
A great website, however, does not appear to be the key to success in the auto industry. Alfa Romeo remains among the slowest-selling luxury brands.
