Baby Boomers love the Ford F-150. That is, perhaps, no surprise. But the youngest car buyers prefer the Toyota Camry midsize sedan, and are the only segment of the car-buying public that prefers cars to SUVs.
Those conclusions come from a new study from S&P Global Mobility, a data and analytics company that advises the auto industry (and generates headlines with interesting studies).
The data, Insider reports, comes from a study of vehicle registrations. S&P broke buyers into seven age categories and listed the most commonly registered cars in each.
For the most part, the results aren’t surprising. Every group prefers vehicles that land squarely in the list of best-selling cars, which rarely changes much year-to-year. But the list wasn’t entirely without surprises.
Perhaps most important for the future of cars, Auto Dealer Today Magazine notes that “only one living generation behind the wheel today prefers cars over pickups and SUVs.” That generation? Those under 24.
