Seeking to raise the limits of what’s possible even higher, Shelby American has unveiled a new wide body one-off based on its just-released 2017 Shelby 50th Anniversary Super Snake. The first concept car to be created by Shelby in over a decade, the Super Snake Concept features the same basic powertrain hardware – a supercharged version of the Ford 5.0-liter V8 that makes over 750 horsepower – as well as the comprehensively upgraded suspension as the Super Snake. But the Concept is wrapped in even wider bodywork to accommodate significant expansions of its front and rear track dimensions, changes that make it even more capable as a potential road racer.

“Adding approximately four inches to the car’s rear track and two and half to the front opened up new opportunities to maximize handling,” notes Vince LaViolette, Shelby American Vice President of Operations and Chief Test Driver. “The fully adjustable coil over suspension and the enormous Brembo braking system, along with wider wheels and tires significantly change the car’s driving dynamics. This provides more grip for later braking and earlier acceleration out of corners. It will deliver more communication to the driver and better absorb track imperfections.”
Designed and built at the Shelby American facility in Las Vegas, the Super Snake Concept is being seriously considered for limited production. If greenlighted, Shelby says it will be marketed globally and each vehicle constructed will be logged into the official Shelby Registry.
