Report: Jeep Wrangler Losing Diesel Option

  • The Jeep Wrangler Farout reportedly starts at $64,485, plus a $1,595 delivery fee.
  • Reports say the Farout model will be the last to carry the optional 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine.

Ram recently announced that it would pull the diesel option from its 1500 truck lineup in January. A new report says corporate cousin Jeep will follow suit, removing the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel option from its Jeep Wrangler lineup as well.

Jeep hasn’t formally announced the end of its oil burner. A post on the JL Wrangler Forums purports to show a notice sent to dealers announcing the change. But we don’t doubt it — if parent company Stellantis is trimming the engine from one option list, it’s probably trimming it from all of them.

Wrangler fans will reportedly have one last chance to get a diesel-powered Jeep. The report says dealers will offer a special edition Wrangler Rubicon Farout, with orders beginning immediately. It features the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine; lest you doubt it, it says “3.0 Diesel” in letters 2 feet high on the hood.

Other features include black leather with red stitching, the Cold Weather Group, and the Tow Package as standard equipment (because diesel engines are known for their towing ability and reliability in harsh conditions). Another post continuing the JL Wrangler Forums thread claims an MSRP of $64,485, presumably not including the $1,595 shipping and handling fee.

We’ve reached out to Jeep to ask for confirmation.
