Report: Hemis and Hellcats Coming Back in August

You may not have even heard they were gone, but they’re already back.

According to a new report, Stellantis (parent company of Dodge, Ram, and other brands) will restart production of its Hemi V8 engine lineup in August. The restart includes not just the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 but also the 6.4-liter 392 engine and the supercharged Hellcat engine that powered a generation of high-performance muscle cars.

The company had gradually removed the engine from its lineup over the last two years. The most powerful engine found in many current Stellantis models is a high-output version of the turbocharged inline-6-cylinder Hurricane engine.

Fan site Mopar Insiders quotes unnamed sources to report that “following the departure of former CEO Carlos Tavares and shifting political influences,” all three engines will return to the Stellantis lineup.

MotorTrend reports that “both the 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter V-8s will be offered in Ram 1500 models.” Mopar Insiders says, “Dodge engineers are actively working to bring HEMI power back to the all-new Dodge Charger.” Dodge offers the current Charger as a gas-powered and an all-electric model.

The company has declined to comment on the report, calling it “speculation” to MotorTrend.
