The Chevrolet Traverse gets one of the most dramatic makeovers of any remodeled car for 2024. But if you prefer the old one, there could be the opportunity to buy it next year, too. A new report says Chevy will continue building the old model under the name 2024 Chevrolet Traverse Limited.
The older 2023 Traverse still on dealership lots has an exceptionally spacious interior, a V6 engine in a field full of 4-cylinder powerplants, and active noise cancelation for a quiet cabin. But there’s no way around it – it looks dated.
The last time it was redesigned, for the 2018 model year, designers were adding curves to SUVs. The Traverse 3-row SUV kept with the trend, looking slightly melted and wearing a thick D-pillar and a grille that wasn’t oversized.
In 2024, blocky is in. The 2024 Traverse looks hewn with a chisel. Its grille is massive. Its D-pillar is smaller and doesn’t reach all the way to the roof, creating a floating roof effect. Side-by-side, the two SUVs look like cousins. But the 2024 version lifts.
It gets a turbocharged 4-cylinder instead of a V6. And an available Z71 trim makes it more capable off-road.
But they’ll both be sold as 2024 cars, according to Car and Driver. The magazine quotes an unidentified Chevrolet spokesperson saying the 2023 model will be sold as the Traverse Limited alongside the new model “for a short period.”
Pricing isn’t available for either 2024 model yet. The 2023 Chevy Traverse starts at $34,520.
It wouldn’t be the first time an automaker has kept selling an older model alongside its replacement. Ram currently sells a Ram 1500 and a Ram 1500 Classic that is nothing but the old Ram 1500.
