Report: Chevrolet to Drop Gas-Powered Blazer After 2025

2025 Chevrolet Blazer RS

Today, there are two Chevrolet Blazer SUVs on dealer lots. They share a name, a design ethos, and roughly similar sizes. But they share few parts. One, the 2025 Chevrolet Blazer, runs on gasoline. The other, the 2025 Chevrolet Blazer electric vehicle (EV), runs on electricity.

A new report says the gas model is going away.

The rumor started at GM Authority but has picked up traction. The site reports that the gas-fed Blazer will follow the Cadillac XT5 and XT6 into retirement at the end of the 2025 model year. A GM spokesperson declined to comment.

A factory refit will bring Blazer production to a halt, Car and Driver reports. Chevrolet builds the gas-powered Blazer in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico. The company “plans to only manufacture electric vehicles at its Mexican facility,” C&D says.

That leaves shoppers looking for a 2-row midsize SUV without a gas-powered Chevy to consider. The compact Equinox is all-new for 2025, and the 3-row Traverse will remain on the lot.

If the report proves true, dealers will still have new gas-powered Blazer inventory arriving until the end of the model year. The current Blazer, starting at $36,795, is perhaps the sportiest-looking 2-row midsize SUV. Our editors like its Camaro-inspired styling and the choice of a V6 or a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, though they cite its small cargo area as a limitation.
