Nearly three-quarters of Tesla Model 3 owners planning to buy another car in the next two years plan to buy another Tesla, according to a new report. Those who want to leave aren’t frustrated with the cars as much as they are mad at the company’s CEO.
Bloomberg surveyed more than 5,000 owners of the Model 3 both in 2019 and 2023. Four years after purchase, Bloomberg says, “Model 3 owners still overwhelmingly loved their cars and had a lot to say about Tesla’s technology.” Most “planned to stick with the brand.”
Love the Car
Model 3 owners praise nearly every aspect of their cars. On a scale of one (dissatisfied) to five (satisfied), they rated its performance at 4.95 and ease of use at 4.83. The design earned a score of 4.77, and reliability scored 4.69.
Since Bloomberg didn’t survey owners of other models, we have nothing to compare that to.
Owners looking to buy another car in the next two years said they would most likely consider a Tesla Cybertruck (51.8%), followed by a Model Y (23.6%). Just 8.5% wanted a newer Model 3.
Hate the Tweets
Those who had already left the brand cited controversial public statements from CEO Elon Musk as their reason for leaving more often than anything to do with the car. Twenty-one-point-five percent said they had sold their cars out of “disapproval of Elon Musk.” Concerns about quality or service were the second most common reason, cited by 18.7%.
“Most Model 3 owners said Musk’s public statements have damaged the brand and impeded Tesla’s mission,” Bloomberg reports.
