Ford’s new compact pickup has just begun reaching customer driveways, and already it’s an automotive smash. The 2022 Ford Maverick won our Best New Model Award and is in the running for several other major industry awards to be announced early in 2022, including the North American Truck of the Year. With its sub-$20,000 starting price, standard hybrid drivetrain, and ride height low enough that many adults can load the bed over the sides, it’s affordable and convenient in a way trucks haven’t been in a long time.
Ford is celebrating by making the truck just a touch more expensive.
The new prices appear on a notice sent to dealers, first posted to the MaverickTruckClub owner’s forum. Reached for comment, Ford didn’t confirm the document’s authenticity, but did say that it had “implemented an average vehicle price increase of about $250.” That’s consistent with what the document says. The price bump is in line with price increases most automakers have made this past year.
Base Price Stays the Same
The price of the base Maverick XL has not changed. It remains $19,995 (plus a $1,495 destination fee). Ford will likely try to keep that price steady for as long as possible. The company heavily advertises the truck as costing below $20,000. They have little room to raise the price without reworking their marketing strategy for it.
Hybrid Sold Out
They’re also sold out. Ford announced in early December that buyers had already reserved every 2022 Maverick hybrid the company could build. Orders will reopen, for the 2023 model, in the summer. It’s still possible to order a Maverick with the optional 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine.
Other Models Getting Minor Price Bumps
Those are reportedly getting a slight price increase. The mid-level XLT sees an $80 tweak, now starting at $22,280. Prices on the top-of-the-line Lariat grow by $370, now starting at $25,490. Prices of some options increase as well, with Ford asking $410 more for the Lariat Luxury Package and $200 more for the power moonroof. There’s even a $10 bump on the cost of the available first aid kit.
With the increases, the Maverick still undercuts the only other small pickup on the market. The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz starts at $23,990, plus a $1,225 freight charge.
Orders that were placed before December 27, 2021, pay the old price.
