Nearly 30,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs built between 2014 and 2019 are under recall due to a fire risk. The recall covers Grand Cherokees with a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine.
Thermal fatigue on these models can cause the engine gas recirculation cooler to crack. This may send vaporized coolant into the engine, where it might ignite. A check engine light, low coolant, or a poorly performing heater may warn of the problem, but it’s possible for a vehicle to have a leak and exhibit no warning signs. There are no reports of injuries or accidents from the problem. But that’s no reason to wait – dealers will replace the potentially worn parts free of charge.
