Porsche has issued a recall alert for about 5,000 Boxster convertibles and Cayman coupes from model years 2012 through 2015. The cars were built with rear-axle carrier side sections that can crack, which could lead to a loss of control and a crash.
Porsche warns that owners may hear a rattling noise as the problem develops, but that doesn’t happen in every case.
Not all Boxsters or Caymans of the affected model years are at risk. Only those of certain trim levels built on certain dates. Porsche will notify owners of affected cars. If you don’t want to wait, a call to a local dealership will clear up whether the recall covers your car.
Dealers will replace the rear-axle carrier side sections in all the recalled cars, whether cracked or not. Recall repairs are always free.
Automakers try to reach every owner with recall notices, but some always slip through the cracks. That leaves millions of Americans driving cars with safety defects they could get repaired free of charge. Find out if your car has any unaddressed recalls at our recall center.
