Mercedes-Benz has announced a recall affecting many of its 2017-2022 vehicles because a hardware problem may prevent them from automatically calling for help in an emergency.
The recall affects about 235,000 cars, spread across much of the Mercedes lineup.
Whether or not your specific car is part of the recall depends on which SIM card it uses as part of its SOS system, which is almost impossible for owners to determine on their own. Mercedes will notify owners through the mail. But those who want to settle the matter early can call Mercedes customer service at 800-367-6372.

Mercedes can fix the problem with a software update. Some of the affected cars can receive an over-the-air update. Mercedes will fix those without a trip to the dealer.
Drivers must bring others into the dealership for the update, which should be a very quick appointment.
