Mercedes tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the batteries themselves are likely fine, but a software bug can cause the car to deactivate them. “The driver will not receive a warning due to the nature of the failure mechanism,” the company says.
Dealers will fix the problem with a software update. Mercedes can’t send this update over the air, so owners must bring their cars in for the patch. Software updates are typically quick service appointments.
