Mercedes-Benz, for the third time, has issued a recall for a large batch of cars because their sunroof panels can detach. This time, the recall covers nearly 124,000 vehicles not included in prior recalls for the same issue.
The recall affects some, but not all, examples of the:
- 2001-2007 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
- 2003-2009 Mercedes-Benz CLK
- 2006-2011 Mercedes-Benz CLS
- 2003-2009 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
The company says roof glass panels may not be properly bonded to the sliding frame that holds them. Drivers might notice excessive wind noise as the problem develops, but it’s also possible for the panel to detach without warning. The company is unaware of any injuries or accidents related to the problem.
Dealers will inspect and replace the panels if the adhesion of the bond is too weak. As always with recall repairs, the fix is free.
Automakers recall many cars, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all. Find out whether your vehicle has any outstanding recalls with the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
