Mercedes-Benz, through its AMG performance unit, has issued a recall for 16,967 vehicles for a second time because an earlier recall fix, performed incorrectly, may have created a fire risk.

Recalled models include some, but not all, examples of the:

Mercedes tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that when technicians replaced a wiring harness in an earlier recall, they may have routed it incorrectly. That can allow water to leak into the connector, which could trigger a short circuit and a vehicle fire.

“As a precautionary measure, an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will replace the two-part wiring harness including the connector on the potentially affected vehicles with a new one-part variant,” the company says.
