Recall Alert: Mazda CX-30 and CX-50 Brake Problems

2023 Mazda CX-50 with mountains in the background.Mazda has issued a recall for about 2,400 CX-30 SUVs from model years 2022 and 2023 and CX-50 SUVs from model year 2023 because their anti-lock braking systems may be faulty. If an anti-lock braking unit fails, the brakes will still stop the car. But, Mazda says, “increased brake pedal travel length while stopping the vehicle may cause a feeling of reduced braking ability, increasing the risk of a crash.”

Mazda tells federal safety officials that some hydraulic control units for the brakes may have been manufactured incorrectly. Mazda’s filing with the government doesn’t say whether the company has received any accident reports. But the company says the supplier that builds the parts discovered the problem at its factory.

Dealers will replace affected hydraulic control units with “a new, improved part.”

By law, dealers don’t charge for recall repairs.

Automakers recall many cars to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. They try to reach every owner to ask them to bring the vehicle in for repair, but they rarely reach them all. Millions of vehicles on American roads need free recall repairs. To find out if your car is one of them, check the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
