Ford has issued a recall for 8,161 Mustang muscie cars from model year 2024 equipped with manual transmissions because they can lose drive power and catch fire.
Ford tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the cars may have a misrouted clutch pressure line that can contact hot exhaust components. If the line melts, the car can leak fluid. “This condition can impact the brake fluid supply in the clutch system and can result in an inability to change gears,” stalling the engine.
In a worst-case scenario, flammable fluid can leak onto hot engine components, risking a vehicle fire.
Ford says it knows of no accidents or injuries related to the problem but “two potentially related reports of underhood fire, and one potentially related report of smoke underhood.”
Dealers will inspect the clutch pressure line, repair it if needed, and re-attach it in the proper place to fix the problem.
