Kia has issued a recall for about 189,000 K5 sedans from model years 2021-2023 because their side curtain airbags may not deploy correctly in an accident.
In documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Kia explains that factory technicians may have installed some airbags incorrectly. Kia engineers discovered the problem after examining photos of an accident. But the company says it is aware of “no confirmed injuries related to this recall condition.”
Dealers will correct the problem by inspecting the side airbag modules and, if necessary, reinstalling them correctly.
