Jeep has issued a recall alert for about 69,000 Wrangler SUVs from model years 2018-2023 and Gladiator pickups from model years 2020-2023 equipped with manual transmissions. Their transmissions may have pressure plates that can overheat and fracture.
The company says it is investigating “a potential trend of vehicle fires” related to the issue. It knows of no accidents but one injury that could be related.
Jeep says the remedy for the problem is still in development. When the company has a fix ready, it will be free.
Jeep expects to notify owners to bring their vehicles in for repair in April. Jeep “has a longstanding policy and practice of reimbursing owners who have incurred the cost of repairing a problem” that later leads to recall.
