Recall Alert: Jeep Wrangler 4xe

A 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid sits plugged in to charge. The Jeep is white and has four doors.

Jeep has issued a recall for about 32,000 Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUVs from model years 2021 through 2024 because of a series of fires.

“The vehicles may be driven. However, the company is advising owners to refrain from recharging these hybrid vehicles, and to park them away from structures and other vehicles, until they are remedied,” Jeep says.

The company has announced the recall before the federal government – a rare move – which means we don’t have access to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documents explaining the possible defect.

Jeep hasn’t explained what caused the fires. The company says it knows of eight incidents, and is unaware of any injuries or accidents related to them. “All were parked and turned off, while six were connected to chargers.”

But Jeep has a plan to remedy the problem, whatever it is.

“The remedy involves a software flash. If a certain error code is observed, the battery pack will be replaced,” Jeep says.

Recall repairs are always free.

Manufacturers try to reach every owner to warn them. However, some may fall through the system’s cracks and are left unknowingly driving recalled cars. Check our easy recall tool to determine if your car has any outstanding recalls.
