Jeep has issued a recall for about 63,000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid SUVs from the 2021-2023 model years because their engines can shut down unexpectedly while driving.
Curiously, Jeep isn’t sure what is causing the problem but knows how to fix it. The company tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the root cause of the problem is under investigation. But Jeep says dealers can fix it by updating “calibration software in the Transmission Control Module, Hybrid Control Processor and Auxiliary Hybrid Control Processor.”
The fix, as always with recall repairs, is free.
Some Wrangler 4xe owners may note that this is the second recall for their vehicles. Jeep installed new fasteners for a fuse assembly in some of the SUVs earlier this year to fix an unrelated power problem. If you haven’t had that problem repaired just yet, dealerships will fix both issues at once.
Manufacturers try to reach every owner to warn them. However, some may fall through the system’s cracks and are left unknowingly driving recalled cars. Check our easy recall tool to determine if your car has any outstanding recalls.
