Recall Alert: Jeep Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee L Suspensions Separating

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee in brown.Jeep has issued a recall for more than 331,000 Grand Cherokee SUVs from model years 2022 and 2023 and Grand Cherokee L SUVs from model years 2021-2023 for an alarming reason: Their rear suspensions can fail suddenly.

Jeep tells government officials that some vehicles “were built with a rear coil spring that may not be correctly installed.” Should the rear coil springs detach, drivers could lose control, and coil springs on the road could hit other cars.

Jeep says it knows of no accidents, but at least “17 warranty claims and two field reports” related to the problem.

Dealers will inspect the recalled vehicles to ensure their coil springs are attached properly and reattach them if necessary.

The recall comes less than a month after Jeep recalled some of the same vehicles for a similar reason involving steering components. In both cases, inspectors found no defective parts. The factory may have assembled things wrong.

Jeep’s parent company Stellantis has not been known for such quality problems in recent years. In 2022, Ford had more recalls than any other automaker, though Tesla had more per car, meaning your Tesla is more likely to face a recall than any other car on the road. By total number of recalled vehicles, Stellantis placed fourth.

Recall repairs are always free. Manufacturers try to reach every owner to warn them. But some always fall through the cracks in the system, and drivers unknowingly operate recalled cars. Check our easy recall tool to find out if your car has any outstanding recalls.
