Honda has issued a recall alert for about 117,000 Ridgeline pickups from model years 2017 through 2019 because their rearview cameras can fail.
Repeated opening and closing of the tailgate, Honda says, can damage the wiring that powers the camera, causing it to fail. Honda tells federal safety regulators that the existing harnesses “may contain an insufficiently tightened zip tie and corrugated tubing that is not inserted sufficiently far into the harness guide.” That could make them more prone to breakage.
Honda dealers will correct the problem by installing a new wiring harness. The company says it has improved the inspection process for the harnesses. So, although they are the same design as the set they are replacing, they should be less prone to failure.
Owners who have already paid for a new wiring harness can apply for reimbursement.
