Honda has recalled 519 Pilot SUVs from model years 2023-2024 because a manufacturing error could cause them to lose steering control.
The company tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that 519 steering gear boxes “were taken off the main assembly line for rework.” In the process, technicians may have left a loose ball bearing in the gear boxes.
That loose ball bearing can “fall into the gap of a rotating part within the gear box,’ causing the steering wheel to lock. The company has not received any reports of the problem from owners but has found three “incidents of steering lock” at the factory.
Dealers will replace the electric power steering rack to fix the problem. By law, recall repairs are always free. But millions of us miss recall notices every year and unknowingly drive recalled vehicles. Find out if your car needs any free safety repairs at our easy recall center.
