Honda is recalling about 1.2 million vehicles because their backup cameras may fail to display an image.
Recalled models include the following:
Honda tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that a cable powering the backup camera “was improperly designed and manufactured, resulting in deformed terminals” that may only intermittently transmit a signal. The same problem can cause “popping or crackling sounds” from the audio system.
Honda knows of no accidents caused by the problem but says it has received almost 274,000 warranty claims.
Dealers will install an improved wiring harness to correct the problem.
