Honda has issued a recall for about 176,000 Civic small cars from models years 2022 through 2024 that may have had their steering racks replaced with defective parts that could cause tire damage.
The automaker tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration it sent steering rack replacement parts to Honda dealerships that may have had “an incorrect stroke length setting.” If the steering rack stroke “exceeds a certain length while driving,” Honda says, the tire could contact steering or suspension parts. That could puncture the tire or cause excessive wear, making a blowout more likely.
Honda is not aware of any accidents related to the issue.
Dealers will inspect the steering racks and, if necessary, replace them with “a non-defective part.”
