Recall Alert: GMC Sierra Detatching Grilles

2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate

GMC has issued a recall for 70,768 Sierra 1500 pickups from model year 2022 because parts of their grilles can detach and fall off in traffic. The recall only affects Sierra models with chrome grilles.

The company also issued a stop delivery order for vehicles with the affected grilles. General Motors tells federal safety officials that the eight connectors attach the grille deflector — the upper portion of the grille — to the trucks. Those connectors “may fracture over time. If all eight attachment points break, the deflector may detach from the vehicle while driving.”

General Motors says it knows of “1,225 field complaints potentially related to this condition, including four allegations of an associated accident.”

The company is still developing a remedy for the problem. When it comes, it will be free. By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.

Automakers recall many cars, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all. Find out whether your vehicle has any outstanding recalls with the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
