Recall Alert: GMC Hummer

GMC Hummer EV With CrabWalkThe GMC Hummer EV has water problems. Consistent water problems.

After a series of attempts to fix the problem less formally, GMC has finally thrown in the towel (they need it to dry up the water) and told the federal government it needs to recall the 2022 and 2023 GMC Hummer EV pickup to correct a problem that can leave drivers stranded if their vehicles get wet.

The recall affects 735 Hummers and 89 BrightDrop EV600 delivery vans, all built during an unspecified time window.

The company tells federal safety regulators that the high-voltage battery pack enclosure in some of these vehicles may lack a proper waterproof seal. Water can get into the improperly-sealed pack. GMC says the problem has left vehicles unable to start in at least two cases.

The company says it is still developing a remedy for the condition. GMC states its battery supplier has altered its procedure to seal the battery packs. So, the company presumably knows how to seal them more effectively. But it may need to develop a formal procedure for dealers to inspect the packs and repair or replace them in the field.
