General Motors has issued a recall order for more than 10,000 Chevrolet and GMC full-size vans, along with a request that owners park them outside until recall repairs are completed. The recall applies to model year 2021 GMC Savana and Chevrolet Express vans equipped with 6.6-liter V8 engines. At issue are tabs on the positive battery cable terminals that might come into contact with a fuse block assembly attachment post. This could lead to a short circuit and a vehicle fire. The risk exists even when the vehicle is parked, and the engine is off.
Express and Savana fans are sold as commercial vehicles, and often found in fleets, so most may be parked outside, to begin with.
GM is aware of four fires that may have been caused by the defect but no injuries or accidents.
Dealers will replace the anti-rotation tabs on the affected battery cables to fix the issue. Recall repairs are always free.
