Ford and its Lincoln luxury division have issued a recall for 70,483 Ford Ranger pickups and Lincoln Nautilus SUVs from model year 2024 because their automatic windows can pinch fingers, according to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Safety laws require a closing car window to reverse if it encounters unexpected resistance to prevent pinched hands and fingers. The windows in the 2024 Ranger and Nautilus do that under most circumstances. However, the front windows may not when drivers use a “global close” feature that closes them all at once if the car has been off for at least 12 minutes.
It’s a software problem, so dealers can fix it with a software update. Unfortunately, these cars can’t receive updates over the air, so owners must bring them into the dealership to have the patch installed. Software updates are typically quick service appointments.
Many cars are recalled, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner but don’t always them all. Find out whether your car has any outstanding recalls with the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
