Ford has issued a recall alert for nearly 280,000 trucks and SUVs equipped with its 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. The vehicles are at risk of a brake fluid leak that could lead to a loss of braking power.
The recall affects the following:
- 2016-2017 Ford F-150
- 2016-2017 Ford Expedition
- 2016-2017 Lincoln Navigator
In documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ford explains, “the brake master cylinder may allow brake fluid to leak from the front wheel circuit into the brake booster” in these vehicles. That could lead to a brake pedal with inconsistent travel, requiring drivers to exert more force than usual to stop the vehicle.
Dealers will replace the brake master cylinder and, if necessary, replace the brake booster.
