Recall Alert: Ford F-150

Silver 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler driving on rocky terrainFord has issued a recall for more than 870,000 F-150 pickups from model years 2021 through 2023 because their parking brakes can activate unexpectedly while driving.

Ford tells federal safety regulators the problem develops if the rear axle wiring harness contacts the rear axle housing. Over time, that can grind away a protective housing, exposing the wires inside. Those wires can then short-circuit, activating the parking brake.

Sudden, unexpected application of the parking brake could lead to an accident.

Ford says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the problem but has received more than 900 warranty complaints that may be linked to it.

Dealers will inspect the wiring harness for damage and replace it if needed. The replacement part includes a plastic shield to protect it from abrasion. If technicians find no damage to the harness, they’ll install a protective strap to prevent contact with the rear axle.
