Ford has launched a recall for about 1,600 Bronco SUVs from model years 2021-2022 because their backup cameras may not turn off when the driver shifts out of reverse.
That, Ford says, could cause a distraction.
If the problem sounds familiar, it’s because this is the second recall for this same issue. Ford initially recalled about 47,000 Broncos to fix backup camera software last year. The company fixed the issue for most of them with an over-the-air software update.
But it has since learned that the software patch did not work for a subset of Broncos with SYNC 8-inch infotainment screens. So, the company will send out a new over-the-air update to fix those. As with all recalls, the repair is free.
