Recall Alert: Fiat 124 Spider Airbags

Fiat has recalled 15,835 124 Spider convertibles from model years 2017-2020 because their airbags can deploy so forcefully that they might cause neck injuries.

Most frontal airbags today are dual-stage models. They deploy more gently for low-speed accidents and more firmly for high-speed crashes. Fiat tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that a software error can lead the roadsters to deploy the high-speed setting even in a low-speed crash.

That poses injury risks.

Dealers will reprogram the airbag control module to fix the problem.

By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.

Manufacturers try to reach every owner to warn them. However, some may fall through the system’s cracks and unknowingly drive recalled cars. Check our easy recall tool to determine if your vehicle has any outstanding recalls.
