General Motors has announced a recall affecting about 60,000 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks from model year 2015. The trucks may have a defective electrical connection in the steering gear assembly, which could lead to a sudden loss of power steering. The loss occurs most often on startup but can occur while driving.
It is possible to control the truck without power steering, but a sudden change in a vehicle’s steering dynamics could lead to an accident. In the recall report, GM notes that “a malfunction indicator light displays on the instrument panel and a chime sounds to inform the driver” when the defect occurs.
Dealers will fix the problem by installing a new steering gear torque sensor cover assembly. There is never a charge for recall repairs. Check out other Chevrolet and GMC recalls.
Many cars face at least one recall at some point in their useful lives. Some face more than one — this is the seventh recall affecting the 2015 Colorado. Manufacturers try to notify owners, but don’t always reach everyone. Find out if your car has ever been recalled at our recall center.
