Recall Alert: 2024 Hyundai Sonata Brake Lights

Hyundai is recalling 38,331 Sonata sedans from model year 2024 because their brake lights may not function properly.

Hyundai tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that, due to a software error, brake lights may flash briefly rather than stay illuminated as long as the driver presses the brake pedal. The problem occurs only “while braking heavily at speeds over 30 mph” – the sort of circumstance where you definitely want drivers behind you to know you’re braking.

Dealers will fix the problem with a software update. But 2024 Sonatas do not receive software updates over the air. So, owners will need to bring them into the dealership to have the patch installed.

Recall repairs are always free.

Manufacturers attempt to contact every owner, but they don’t always reach them all with the news. Find out if your car has ever been recalled at our recall center.
