Ford has recalled 30,735 Mustang cars from model years 2022 and 2023 because they can turn suddenly without the driver’s input.
Ford tells federal safety officials that a secondary steering wheel torque sensor in the cars “may not be calibrated properly, which can cause the steering wheel to turn side to side against the driver’s intentions.” The secondary sensor kicks in only if the primary sensor “experiences a failure or fault.”
Ford says it is aware of no accidents or injuries related to the problem, which was uncovered at a supplier’s factory.
Dealers will update the power steering control module software to correct the problem.
